A "Cast" of Thousands
Few agricultural events involve such a community effort as does the Red River Valley's sugarbeet harvest. Each fall, well over one thousand people reschedule their regular lives for a couple weeks to work the sugarbeet piling operations at American Crystal's receiving stations.
People come from all walks of life to participate in what has been called "the largest harvest of a perishable crop in the world.
Money is the prime motivation for working the harvest * it can pay over $2,000 in a short period of time. But there are other reasons. Many enjoy the challenge and feeling of job well done along with the camaraderie and friendships they establish.
Whatever the reason, the experience of a sugarbeet harvest is simply "unbeetable."
